Éowyn’s role in The Rohirrim War may explain her missing relationship with Faramir

Éowyn’s narration could fill in the details

Eowyn and Faramir from Lord of the Rings

Éowyn was a beloved feature of Jackson Lord of the Rings film, where his role as the bane of the Witch-king of Angmar was played to perfection.”I am not a man” is among the most iconic moments of the entire film trilogy, but the rest of Éowyn’s story, as told by JRR Tolkien, has been sadly neglected.. The author saw the heroine taken to the House of Healing in Gondor, where Aragorn nursed her to health along with Faramir, who was recovering after his father, Denethor, had tried to burn him alive. Éowyn and Faramir eventually bonded over their shared trauma, and a touching romance ensued.

Unfortunately, there was simply no time for all of this in the Return of the King film. While a deleted scene shows the two growing closer, this also doesn’t come close to the satisfying ending the character received in the book. However, Rohirrim War could retroactively change this situation. Since Éowyn is the narrator, the film could bounce between her present and the days of Helm Hammerhand as he tells the story of his Rohirrim ancestors. If so, Rohirrim War could finally reveal the details of the love story between Éowyn and Faramir.

Eowyn and Faramir look into the Lord of the Rings

After the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the KingÉowyn and Faramir were married. Aragorn honored Faramir with the title of Prince of Ithilian, where the couple settled and had their children, including their son Elboron. However, this meant that Éowyn lived out the rest of her life outside of Rohan (although there are recorded instances of her visiting her brother Éomer, the king). However, she would surely carry a deep love for her home kingdom forever. This could be the perfect starting point for Rohirrim War.

If in War of the Rohirrim we see her sitting down to tell her children and husband this ancient story, the film would retroactively fill in the romantic part that Jackson cut from the Lord of the Rings film.

Éowyn is the perfect narrator for Rohirrim War as it makes sense that he would tell his family the story of his home kingdom. The next film is expected to follow Helm Hammerhand’s daughter, Hèraa hero who would surely have inspired Éowyn’s desire to be a warrior. If Rohirrim War sees her sit down to tell her children and husband this ancient story, the film would retroactively fill in Jackson’s love story Lord of the Rings cut films. It would mean a much more satisfying ending to Éowyn’s story.
