Chelsea Transfers: Celtic’s Matt O’Riley a potential Conor Gallagher replacement | Football News

Chelsea are considering possible replacements if Conor Gallagher leaves the club.

Vscek News understands that one of the many options they are keen on is Celtic’s Matt O’Riley.

This summer O’Riley was the subject of offers from Atalanta and other Premier League and foreign clubs have expressed interest in their player.

Speaking in July, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers discussed the future of in-demand midfielder O’Riley

Atletico Madrid, who agreed a £34m deal with Chelsea for Gallagher, made a bid for O’Riley in January.

Talks between Gallagher and Chelsea continue this weekend to find a solution to his future.

The England international has been told he will only be a squad player under Enzo Maresca, with the Blues’ new manager preferring a possession-focused style of play to Chelsea.

Vscek’ Melissa Reddy reports on the latest from Chelsea’s training camp regarding midfielder Gallagher

Gallagher is weighing his options.

As things stand, he can either speak to Atletico, accept Chelsea’s offer of a two-year contract with the option of a third year, or terminate his current one, which expires in 2025, while waiting to see whether other clubs come forward for him this summer or in January.

Chelsea accepted a higher offer from Aston Villa for Gallagher this summer, but he has decided to reject a move to Villa Park and stay at Stamford Bridge. Spurs remain interested in Gallagher.

Chelsea would prefer to sell him to a foreign club rather than a Premier League rival.

When does the summer transfer window open and close?

THE Summer Transfer Window 2024 will officially close on August 30 at 11pm (UK time) for the Premier League and 11.30pm (Scotland time).

The Premier League has moved up its Deadline Day to match other major leagues in Europe. The cut-off dates were set following discussions with leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
