Updated Reddit AMA posts will be available this week

Reddit’s “ask me anything” posts, or AMAs, may feel more like special events than standard posts with a twist, thanks to changes rolling out sitewide Thursday. While none of the updates are a complete overhaul, they do put a new kind of emphasis on the popular Q&A sessions.

Starting Thursday, a new AMA tab will offer special options like the ability to schedule and promote an AMA in a single post. Post creators can also add up to five co-hosts, whose responses are marked as such in the comments section. When the AMA is over, hosts can also add a final note with closing thoughts, links, or promotional information.

For regular users of the site, a new RSVP option will allow them to receive notifications so they never miss a thing. Once an AMA is live, new tabs allow readers to filter comments by questions hosts have answered or not. Additionally, scheduled AMAs will receive labels indicating whether they are coming soon, are already live, or have passed.

Here is a gallery of images showing some of the changes:

Like many people, I always feel the need to brace myself whenever Reddit announces it’s doing something new. But these changes to the site’s Q&A sessions feel like real improvements. Having missed my portion of AMAs that I really wanted to attend because I simply forgot, I’m looking forward to getting reminders for them.
