Anyone with a Substack account can now post on the web and Substack’s mobile app, the company announced Thursday, transforming the newsletter platform into an even bigger social network. (Currently, users posting to their profile on mobile can only do so through the Substack iOS app, though Android support is coming soon.)
Substack members can publish content, earn paid and free subscribers, and accrue engagements from their Substack profile without having to create a publication. However, creating a publication allows them to take advantage of more advanced features like a website, multiple admins, and sections. If they choose to start a new one, Substack says, they can import any subscribers they may have accrued.

However, users cannot make their Substack profiles private, so anyone can follow and read their posts. If they want to post to a limited audience, they must create and link a private post on their profile.
Along with these updates, Substack also announced that it is continuing to work on making the platform more mobile-friendly. Last month, the platform began allowing users to publish full posts from the mobile app. Today, the company revealed that it is also testing live video and in-app payments.
