Even under the elements, Noah Lyles took home another medal for Team USA.
After the 27-year-old placed third in the men’s 200-meter final, he ran onto the track where he appeared to be breathing heavily before lying on his back. Doctors soon helped him off the track in a wheelchair, with a spokesperson for the Paris Olympics telling NBC News that Noah was unable to walk unaided after his efforts.
However, his mother Keisha Bishop Dogwho was cheering him on during the race, He quickly provided information on his condition, telling NBC Sports Lewis Johnson that her son had been diagnosed with COVID-19 two days before the final exam.
The Team USA star, who has already won a gold medal in the men’s 100 meters, then spoke about his health.
“I woke up early, around 5 a.m. on Tuesday,” he told Lewis on the broadcast through a mask, “and I felt really horrible and I knew it was more than just a 100-degree pain. I woke up the doctors and we did the test, and unfortunately it came back positive for COVID.”
