PGA Tour: Beau Hossler leads Wyndham Championship after 10-under 60 in first round, boosts FedExCup playoff hopes | Golf News

Beau Hossler shot a 60 (10-under par) to take a two-shot lead at the rain-soaked Wyndham Championship, with 66 players still awaiting completion of their first round in North Carolina.

On Friday, Hossler birdied the first four holes and then eagled the fifth before attempting another shot on the eighth, finishing with a seven-under-par 28, while making four gains and a single bogey over the final nine holes.

The 29-year-old, who finished one shot shy of the course record after making pars on the final three holes, said: “It was one of those days where I felt like everything had come together.”

Billy Horschel is Hossler’s closest challenger at eight under par and has two holes left to play in his first round, with Nick Taylor third at seven under par after 14 holes.

England’s Ben Taylor is four shots back at six under after seven birdies on his first nine holes were slightly undermined by two dropped shots to give him a 64.

Tropical Storm Debby had canceled Thursday’s tournament at Sedgefield Country Club and the tournament finally got underway at 9:50 a.m. local time on Friday, before being suspended later due to darkness.

In a statement, the PGA Tour said the first round will resume at 7 a.m. local time on Saturday, with the second round scheduled to begin at 7:40 a.m.

The top 70 players in the FedExCup standings after the Wyndham Championship will advance to the first playoff event next week, the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

Hossler, still seeking his first professional victory, entered the Wyndham Championship ranked 87th in the FedExCup and must finish alone in third place or better to have a chance of making the playoffs.
