Beau Hossler shot a 60 (10-under par) to take a two-shot lead at the rain-soaked Wyndham Championship, with 66 players still awaiting completion of their first round in North Carolina.
On Friday, Hossler birdied the first four holes and then eagled the fifth before attempting another shot on the eighth, finishing with a seven-under-par 28, while making four gains and a single bogey over the final nine holes.
The 29-year-old, who finished one shot shy of the course record after making pars on the final three holes, said: “It was one of those days where I felt like everything had come together.”
Billy Horschel is Hossler’s closest challenger at eight under par and has two holes left to play in his first round, with Nick Taylor third at seven under par after 14 holes.
England’s Ben Taylor is four shots back at six under after seven birdies on his first nine holes were slightly undermined by two dropped shots to give him a 64.
