Robert Griffin III he’s unemployed: The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback has reportedly been fired from his position at ESPN… despite having a few years left on his contract.
The news was spread via The Athletic Thursday… without any reason being given for this move.
This is a rather shocking development, as RG3 has become a staple of the network: his analysis has been widely applauded on “Monday Night Countdown” and throughout his coverage of college football.
RG3 also commentated for ESPN… and made appearances on “Get Up” and “First Take.”
The 2012 No. 2 overall pick has yet to comment on his decision… but we’ll likely hear more from him soon, as he’s very active on social media.
The change came after reports that he would lose his spot on the “Monday Night Football” desk to a future Hall of Famer. Jason KelceWho joined the team at the time of his retirement.
The period of unemployment will almost certainly be short-lived… as other channels rush to add RG3 to their rotations.
RG3 wasn’t the only one to be hit… as one long-time journalist claimed Sam Ponder He was also reportedly cut from ESPN’s roster.
The 34-year-old Griffin, a Baylor star, played for Washington, Cleveland and Baltimore before making the move to television… and it’s safe to say he’ll be back soon.
