Rossa Ryan heads to Newbury with four chances to reduce the widening deficit to Oisin Murphy in the jockeys’ championship.
3.45 Newbury – Adrestia and Magic Mild seek Listed honors
Simon and Ed Crisford, coached Address has made progress with every start this season and, after starting in a Yarmouth Maiden last month, has gone on to slug it out in a Sandown handicap. Factoring in a 9lb gain for that effort, he carries a 91 here and should be in the mix under Callum Shepherd.
by Clive Cox Gentle magic was well supported when she comfortably claimed a Newmarket nursery on her last start, despite drifting down the track. She is regarded as the most dangerous, especially if those oddities are sorted out and is one of four possibilities for Rossa Ryan on the day.
Others to consider include three-time winner Purple love and Super Sprint Stakes fourth, Paper.
3.15 Naples – O’Brien’s Isambard Brunel challenges the burning maiden
A fantastic maiden win last year by King’s Gambit sees Aidan O’Brien saddle up the colt Justify Isambard Brunel who will make his debut under the guidance of Ryan Moore.
He faces a number of potential top-class rivals, including Charlie Appleby King’s Cardthe ride of Rossa Ryan. This son of Kingman is a brother to the useful Skellet and is expected to go close after his excellent third on debut at Sandown.
by Andrew Balding Lord of the Wind He chased Anno Domini in a close race at Sandown and deserves respect for his third championship start.
3.35 Turin – Miss Gitana and Standbackandlook clash
Miss Gypsy She has been in fine form of late, winning her last two starts at Doncaster and Bath, and the inexperienced stayer could prove hard to beat now that she steps up to all-weather racing under Jack Gilligan.
by William Knight Standbackandlook He broke the ice when handicapped over this course and distance on his last start and must be feared as he leads the standings with Jim Crowley, an obvious caution.
Of the remainder, one to watch would be Gary and Josh Moore’s Lingfield winner Little fisheswho booked Tom Queally to come on board.
The best of the rest
Wolverhampton host a great beginners contest at 2.25pm, which sees New Island is banking on Sir Michael Stoute in the Cheveley Park colours, while the three-year-old filly Queen of Soldiers has every chance for Roger Varian here.
In Newbury, Miss El Fundi represents Sir Mark Prescott again (2.05) after striking amidst the Novice company last time out at Kempton on all-wether. Returning to turf, Luke Morris’ charge will need to do better than he did when fifth in the Chesham Stakes.
Karl Burke Saddles Too small at 2.40, a filly who showed great potential on the last day at Ripon. Andrew Balding’s Musical Angel She was beaten by Miss Fascinator on debut, but could do even better here.
