If Dark matter season 2 gets the green light from Apple TV+, the continuation of the story must explain a potential hole in the franchise’s canon, as it’s an issue that was never addressed in the source material. Based on a 2016 novel of the same name by Blake Crouch, Apple TV+ has made many tasteful changes and additions to the Dark matter book, but it didn’t solve a nagging mystery. If the Dark matter the cast will be returning for another series of episodes, this would be the perfect opportunity to tie up that particular loose end.
Dark matter the season 1 finale suggested that showrunner Blake Crouch wanted to continue the story beyond its original version. The finale, “Entanglement,” contained several hints and teases that would have meant the saga would extend beyond the final page of the source material. With the novel now out of print, Dark matter Season 2 would be uncharted narrative territory for Blake Crouch. Hopefully he also uses the opportunity to clarify a large component of canon surrounding how Dark matterinterdimensional travel works.

Dark Matter Season 2: Will It Happen? Everything We Know
The finale of Apple TV+’s shocking sci-fi series Dark Matter was anything but conclusive, and that opens the door for much more in season two.
The way the box appears in the dark matter multiverse doesn’t make sense
Blake Crouch also omits an explanation from his live-action adaptation of Dark Matter
Dark matter The first season intentionally leaves behind several compelling mysteries, but fails to explain one huge puzzle contained in the book. Crouch has clearly put a lot of thought into the way Jason2’s box travels across multiple worlds. The writer-turned-showrunner covers everything from the relatively simple design of the box, to the compound needed to influence the pilots’ perceptions, and even how the inside of the box transforms during transport. What he continues to leave unsaid, however, is how the box appears in each universe.
Even if it only materializes when the pilot opens the door from the inside, it means that there is now another universe with a box, an event that repeats itself countless times throughout history.
The box does not travel like a traditional vehicle, but rather suddenly allows its passengers to be instantly transported to another reality once the door is opened from the inside. What is confusing is that It is strongly assumed that Jason2 is the only version of the character to have developed the boxmaking it incredibly valuable. On the other hand, it seems to be present in every single reality. Even if it only materializes once the pilot opens the door from the inside, it means that there is now another universe with a box, an event that repeats itself countless times throughout history.
Dark Matter Season 1 Made Box Logic Even Worse
Apple TV+ Has Landed the Box in Some Crazy Scenarios
Live action Dark matter the Apple TV+ adaptation has had the chance to elaborate on this confusing aspect of the box canon, but instead made it even more difficult to follow, as well as making it a little more impossible. For example, more than one universe in Dark matter Season 1 was revealed to be a reality where Jason had died a long time ago, but perhaps never existed. Therefore, he would never have developed the box, and it should not exist in that universe.
It is established that the box will remain permanently in each universe it arrives in, raising questions about how such a discovery might impact each world.
Even more confusingly, the box’s landing point in each universe, which is supposedly always the same coordinates regardless of reality, made no sense at all. In one reality, the box was in the middle of a busy highwayso it would be highly illogical for it to have been there before. In another, the box materialized in the same location, but hovering just above the Chicago River, immediately plunging into the depths. When it sank, it should technically have appeared in the next universe at a lower altitude, but it didn’t. Instead, it returned to ground level.
How we think Jason2’s box appears out of nowhere
The logic of the dark matter box revolves around the concept of superposition
If there is a solid logic to how the box materializes in the multiverse, it has yet to be shared with readers of the novel or Apple TV+ viewers. However, other established parts of the sci-fi vessel lore can be extrapolated to provide at least a symbolic explanation for the box’s increasing presence in so many alternate realities. In short, it all comes down to the observer effect.
Pilots cannot travel using the box unless they take a fictional compound called Fairy Lavender, which deactivates key parts of the brain.
Dark matterThe plot revolves heavily around the observer effect, which is a real concept in quantum physics. Pilots cannot travel using the box unless they take a fictional compound known as Lavender Fairy, which deactivates key parts of the brain. After this, the sensory deprivation qualities of the box coupled with The drugs in their system allow the box pilots to exist in a superposition state – which means occupying more than one space at a time. Once the medicine runs out or the box door is opened, this state ceases to be active.

Joel Edgerton is very wrong about Dark Matter season 2
Edgerton’s comments about the Dark Matter season 1 finale don’t quite add up, as his assessment of the situation ignores the finale’s important moments.
AS, the leading theory is that the box originally existed only in the Jason2 universebecause he invented it. So, whenever someone came in and took the neural compound, initially nothing changed in terms of how many boxes were there. When they open the door, it ends the superposition state and causes a new box to appear in that reality. This happens every time a pilot uses the box. When the landing coordinates were occupied or unsuitable, it didn’t matter, and Dark matterThe ‘s box worked around what was already there.
