The delayed GTA game would have been the first in the series

Summary

  • Meta indefinitely suspends the launch of GTA: San Andreas VR, disappointing fans eagerly awaiting a new immersive experience.
  • GTA 6 remains highly anticipated despite the speculation and rumors surrounding its release date.
  • GTA: San Andreas VR would have offered a unique first-person perspective, potentially paving the way for further VR releases in the series.

While many wait Car theft 6launch next year, another title in the series was in the works at Meta. In 2021, the company announced that it was working on a VR version of one of the Great Britain the most beloved titles of the franchise, Saint Andrewoffering a new and unique way to play the title.

Unfortunately, when I responded to a comment about the Skydance trailer, ColossusMeta Quest’s official YouTube account stated that while Meta is looking forward to working with Rockstar in the future, the VR version of GTA: San Andreas AND “on hold indefinitely“while both studies”focus on other projects.“This may disappoint fans eager to return to the series’ 90s, Los Angeles-inspired title in a more immersive way, but it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as Rockstar has previously pulled staff from other projects such as Red Dead Online in a “all on deck” approach to get Car theft 6 to meet the planned release window of autumn 2025.

How likely is the latest GTA 6 release rumor?

GTA 6 is a highly anticipated game and as a result, its release date has been the subject of much speculation and rumors.

GTA: San Andreas VR would have been the first chapter in the series

With GTA 5 experimenting with the series in first person

With the Car theft series predominantly third-person, both in its original 2D top-down format and the 3D titles most are accustomed to, GTA: San Andreas VR would have certainly made the experience interesting by allowing players to see Los Santos through the eyes of the game’s protagonist, CJ. Rockstar has already experimented with the first-person perspective with the PS4, Xbox One and PC re-release of the latest chapter in the series, GTA 5and this will probably reappear in GTA 6, also, as it was also presented in Rockstar’s most recent title, Red Dead Redemption 2.

However, the option to switch to first-person view was not included in the game, which was poorly received. GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition released in 2021. This collection included a version of GTA: San Andreasbut it was criticized for its numerous bugs and for being ported from the mobile version of the game, with many expressing their disappointment. Therefore, if done right, the VR title could wash away the bad taste of the Definitive Edition while offering a new way to play Saint Andrew that had never been seen before, potentially paving the way for potential VR versions of other games in the series, such as Vice City.

It is not clear at the moment whether Grand Theft Auto: Saint Andrew will ever be released, but the fact that Meta used the phrase “pending” rather than “canceled” should offer some hope. Meanwhile, the VR gaming space certainly looks set to have an impressive year ahead of it, with the aforementioned Colossus Coming out this fall alongside the latest chapter in the Arkhamverse, the exclusive Meta Quest 3 Batman: Arkham Shadowand horror shooter Alien: Rogue Incursion will arrive only a few months later, in December.
