15 years ago, Star Wars revealed the ultimate battle between Jedi and Sith that the movies never gave us. In the Skywalker saga in 9 films and in the films connected to it like Rogue One AND AloneThe Old Republic era where there were as many Sith Lords as Jedi Knights has never been explored on the big screen. Likewise, the only Star Wars a live show that even comes close to what audiences have been craving since 2009 (if not before).
Thousands of years before The Phantom Menacethe Republic and the Jedi Order were constantly embroiled in wars with variants of the Sith Empire during the Ancient Republic Era. Serving as the setting for the ever-popular Knights of the Old Republic games and its successor The Old Republicthis still canonical period has captured Star Wars the minds of the fans several years later, though most of its specific events have been made non-canon Legends. Regardless, Hopes that Lucasfilm will one day bring the Sith armies to the big screen to face the first Jedi have never entirely vanished.

The Jedi and the Republic vs. the Sith Empire
Whether it’s comics, books, Knights of the Old Republic games, or The Old Republic Role playing game,The Old Republic era famously features the armies of the Sith Empire as the primary threat to the Republic and the Jedi Order.. Before Darth Bane and his Rule of Two, there were just as many Force users who served the dark side as the light. Naturally, this led to the Old Republic Era featuring some of the most epic battles, as the Republic frequently went to war against the Sith Empire.
During the Knights of the Republic games, most of the narrative centers on Darth Revan, an amnesiac rogue Jedi who would become a Sith Lord, only to be recaptured by the Jedi who erase his memory. Now a Jedi again, Revan clashes with Darth Malak, his former apprentice who has since taken over the leadership of the initial Sith Empire from the Unknown Regions. Likewise, Knights of the Old Republic II focuses on a triumvirate of Sith leaders: Darth Nihilus, Darth Traya, and Darth Sion. While both games featured clashes between Jedi and multiple Sith Lords, the later Old Republic MMO has really taken this concept to the next level.

However, the game’s impressive cinematic trailers are also universally loved, effectively being period-set short films that depict some of the most incredible lightsaber duels and galactic battles ever seen at a level so high that it objectively surpasses what was seen in the movies. This includes one of the The Old Republic The first theatrical trailers were released in 2009.
Titled “Deceived,” BioWare’s 2009 film tells the story of Darth Malgus, who led the new Sith Empire’s “Sacking of Coruscant,” infiltrating the city planet just before a massive invasion force took control of the planet. After walking up the front steps of the iconic Jedi Temple, Malgus precedes a shuttle carrying fifty Sith warriors that crashes right through the main entrance. Igniting their crimson blades, this force of Sith quickly dispatched their Jedi rivals as warships of the Sith Empire descended on Coruscant.
The idea of a clash between Jedi and Sith armies has been definitively proven by The Old Republic the kinematics were absolutely brilliant 15 years ago and had been established much earlier with the Knights of the Old Republic games. However, the canon Star Wars The movies have yet to present anything of this level in live-actionThis is largely due to the fact that Lucasfilm had yet to make a canonical film or project prior to Darth Bane’s Rule of Two, which prohibits the existence of any Sith beyond a single master and apprentice simultaneously.

Despite all its controversies and mixed reception, The Acolyte and its setting in the High Republic is the closest Star Wars has arrived at the epic clashes of the previous Old Republic Era. Set 100 years before The Phantom MenaceQimir’s Stranger is still a lone Sith Lord. However, he faces off against an entire force of Jedi in a sequence that features some impressive duels and combat. That said, it’s still nowhere near what it was Star Wars could and should have to deal with armies of Force users on both sides. Hopefully the Old Republic will eventually be explored on screen in Star Wars the future of franchising.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: The Old Republic it’s fascinating. Next to World of WarcraftIt has somehow become the MMORPG that tens of thousands of people have invested the most time in, despite not always knowing what to think of it. In 2011, it was a game at odds with itself, and while so much has changed since then, that hasn’t changed. But that conflict has also led to seismic shifts, with BioWare taking it in unexpected directions. People keep coming back, and with a new expansion on the horizon, you might be contemplating the same thing. You should.
However, things have come a long way since those days. After finishing your class story around Level 50, you’re out of character-driven adventures, crises, and yams for several games to play. The first two expansions aren’t really worth repeating, but everything from Shadow of Revan onwards is surprisingly engaging, evocative of the single-player RPGs that inspired it but not beholden to them. Perhaps more like Knights of the Old Republic 2The latest chapters make the Star Wars universe and the Force seem strange again.
Getting back to the leveling games, those first 50 levels will fly by if you’re subscribed to their membership, or take a good bit longer if you’re here to play for free. All the free XP bonuses and boosts mean subscribers can hit the original level cap just by completing class and planetary missions. They’re invariably the best-written and most engaging parts of the game, to the point where it feels like a classic BioWare RPG. Everything else is a lottery. The actual objectives for each mission type rarely stray from the more mundane MMO tropes of fetch and kill, so most of the heavy lifting is done by the story and characters.
In particular, as a new or returning player, you won’t be without group or solo stuff for long, and the busiest servers feel as vibrant as a fresh MMO, so you won’t be short of people to play with. And it keeps growing. After a long hiatus, the war between the Empire and the Republic has flared up again, and a new storyline has kicked off that takes players to new worlds like Ossus and Dantooine. Along with new missions, operations, and special events, the latest round of updates has also given PvP a new focus, introducing new maps, modes, and free-to-play PvP areas for everyone.
A lot of players keep coming back for more, but each time they do it’s a little different, more often than not for the better. Part of the appeal is that Star Wars fans have been a bit neglected in the gaming department under EA’s stewardship, and while the Battlefront games do an excellent job of recreating the impressive battles from the films, they don’t really capture the universe in the same way that an MMORPG like The Old Republic doesIf you’re looking for a good Star Wars story, this game has it all.
