Kamala Harris’ Brat Summer is almost over. What happens next?

Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus): POTUS is not running for a second term. Oh my God, I’m running. Oh my God.

Dan Egan (Reid Scott): Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, lady, give me these straight poop ears, will you?

Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus): It’s totally…

Dan Egan (Reid Scott): Yes.

Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus): Really.

Dan Egan (Reid Scott): Oh, thank you.

Hunter Harris: People who know Vice President from memory, it’s our season, let me tell you.

Leah Feiger: It’s really good.

Hunter Harris: But I mean, really, it was ridiculous the way that Kamala Harris was being undermined publicly and, apparently, privately as well.

Leah Feiger: Yes, absolutely.

Hunter Harris: And then I think it worked in her favor that the Biden campaign basically kept it under wraps.

Leah Feiger: Yes.

Hunter Harris: Because all the reasons why the Internet and young people had sort of vilified Kamala, her track record as a prosecutor, her position on Gaza, people had sort of forgotten that she was less progressive than she seemed.

Leah Feiger: Absolutely, totally, totally. Yeah, that just came out. It’s an underdog story, that’s kind of how it feels, which is hilarious, because she’s on the incumbent’s side.

Hunter Harris: It’s shocking that someone who has been so close to the presidency for the last four years is considered the underdog in this narrative because…

Leah Feiger: Yes.

Hunter Harris: But he wears it very well. I think…

Leah Feiger: Yes.

Hunter Harris: … I mean, I wonder when all this will change, when politics will become…

Leah Feiger: Oh, yes.

Hunter Harris: …politics again and not pop culture, and then it’ll seem like, okay, let’s go back to a situation where none of this is very funny.

Leah Feiger: Well, I guess that brings me to, is Brat Summer over yet? Let’s talk about it, Biden is dropping out, Charli XCX wrote on X that Kamala is a Brat. The Harris campaign has taken it over, they’ve changed a lot of things on social media. They’ve done things that the Biden campaign couldn’t have even dreamed of with social media. What do you see in terms of trends shifting, things maybe shifting, even the conversation around it? Like you can’t have a Brat Summer in October.

Hunter Harris: Sure. I think the Brat Summer phenomenon will eventually fizzle out, even though Obama just put a Brat song on his annual summer playlist. I said…

Leah Feiger: Like, bless the intern who’s like super on top. That whole playlist, I’m like, “This is awesome.”

Hunter Harris: I find it really petty that he didn’t include Chappell Roan, as if his playlist didn’t have the musical story of the summer.

Leah Feiger: I was looking for “Hot to Go”, that’s what I wanted to see on Obama’s playlist.
