Brian Cox He doesn’t shy away from superhero movies… saying that kids like them Hugh Jackman AND My name is Ryan Reynolds. they’re too talented for them, but he can’t fault them for taking the money.
The actor spoke at a panel at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland on Saturday… and took a similar stance to many Hollywood legends, saying that cinema has been in decline in recent years and that Marvel is at least partly to blame.
As Cox says, the grandiose nature of the films has led to a loss of plot… and the actors are treating it more like a big party than a real challenge.
Here he specifically mentions Hugh and Ryan… saying that “Deadpool and Wolverine” could make the studio a lot of money, but it wouldn’t really create any creative momentum.
Cox says he thinks “Hugh Jackman can do a little bit more,” as can Ryan Reynolds… but they chose not to because they get paid so much.
No criticism of them, BC adds… so he’s not saying Hugh and Ryan are necessarily doing anything wrong, but that they could use more testing.
Cox admits it’s strange for him to say that, given that he’s had a go at superheroes before… appearing alongside Jackman in “X2” way back when, but adds that even he often forgets about that role.
Of course, Brian isn’t afraid to speak his mind… having come under fire several times this year for sandblasting fellow actor actress AND criticize organized religion also — fundamentally, Cox is not one to shy away from controversy.
Note… ‘D&W’ has cashed in over $1 billion worldwide, so it’s unlikely Hugh and Ryan will listen to anything Cox has to say.
Bottom line… another star who hates the MCU, while Marvel actors make astronomical amounts!
