Bojan Miovski: Aberdeen sell striker in record £6.8m deal to Girona | Football News

Striker Bojan Miovski has left Aberdeen for a club record £6.8m to join Spanish club Girona.

The North Macedonia international, 25, moved to Pittodrie in 2022 for around £600,000 from MTK Budapest and has scored 44 goals in 97 appearances.

His £6.8m move to La Liga surpasses the £6.5m Aberdeen received in June 2022 when they sold right-back Calvin Ramsay to Liverpool.

Miovski has signed a contract until the summer of 2028 with Girona, who finished third last season behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona and will play in the Champions League this year.

Dons chief executive Alan Burrows said: “Bojan was a magnificent No.9 for Aberdeen and while we are obviously sad to lose him, we are also delighted that he has achieved such a fantastic result. He deserves it and we thank him for his significant contribution.

“The deal is also positive for the club and further reinforces the player exchange strategy that Dave Cormack and the board have adopted and driven over several seasons. This model means that a club will plan to invest significantly more each season in football wages and transfer fees than it takes in in season ticket, hospitality and retail revenue.

“It obviously builds on deals like Bojan’s, where all proceeds are reinvested into our football department, and as CEO I am indebted to our investor group for underwriting the strategy which will have ebbs and flows of cash flow over the seasons. We will work hard to develop it further, while constantly reviewing and benchmarking ourselves against similar clubs across Europe, particularly in Scandinavia, who are doing it very effectively and consistently performing at their best.

“Our focus remains on developing our players through our academy, complemented by intelligent recruitment from around the world, with the aim of bringing footballing success to Aberdeen FC.

“We have already added six players in this transfer window and our recruitment team, together with the manager, continue to evaluate ways to strengthen the squad between now and the end of the month.”
