The radio demon Alastor is one of the biggest puzzles in Prime Video’s adult animated musical series, Hazbin HotelWith the series focusing on redeeming sinners and taking them to Heaven, could this mysterious character be one of them? Amir Talai he sat down with Perri Nemiroff for an episode of Collision forcesto discuss whether his character could one day be worthy of Heaven.
When asked if Alastor was redeemable, Talai answered perceptively:
“I think everyone is redeemable. I think that’s one of the great things about this show. But they have to be willing to put in the work, and the more bad you’ve done, the more work you’re going to have to do to redeem yourself. So, Alastor has done some bad things in his life when he was alive, he’s done some bad things down there in hell, and if he wants to redeem himself, he has to work really hard. But he has to want it first. I think there are a lot of people who don’t want to be redeemed in hell and on Earth.”
Talai was tight-lipped about one thing, though. When Nemiroff asked who Alastor cared about most and who he would do his best for, Talai simply said, “I won’t answer that.”
Alastor’s Backstory Will Be Explored in Season 2 of ‘Hazbin Hotel’
Alastor fans have a lot to look forward to in Hazbin Hotelsecond season of. Whether it’s a grander narrative or more songs than the first season, there’s also some juicy Alastor content coming. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the series’ creator Vivienne Medrano shared how canonizing Alastor’s backstory was a priority for her. “I’ve had him for so long, and I’ve developed him as a character for so long that people kind of know his backstory,” Medrano said. “It was a very high priority for Me to canonize that past history because for me it’s a full circle, not only as a storyteller but also because I’ve had this character for so long. So, I’m very excited for people to see the legitimately on-screen, canon version of her backstory. I’ve had her for so long, so I’m very excited for that.”
Alastor was the first character Medrano developed when he was young, and he wanted to make sure the Radio Demon’s background was visible on screen:
“I’ve had Alastor since I was in middle school.
in the early iterations. Most of what it is now was born between the end of high school and college, but it remained more or less the same throughout. It was more of a project of his. He started
a deer, just an animal, but it was evil. A cannibal deer
and then he turned into a cannibalistic magical deer, and then he became like an evil demon deer. They became the shapeshifter in human form that was also a deer. Eventually, he ended up being a demon that just looks a little bit like a deer and has deer aspects because of a backstory I gave him.”
