When it comes to classic horror, Black Christmas has become a must-have for fans of the genre every December. The Bob Clark-directed by the Canadian slasher celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and is one of the rare films of its era to never have had an official sequel. This despite having been remade twice in the last 20 years. However, Black Christmas fans are not afraid because the writers, directors and producers Dave McRae AND Bruce Dale they are back with their next movie, It’s Me, Billy: Chapter 2With only two months to go until the sequel and final installment, here’s the trailer featuring a familiar face trying to hunt down the dreaded “Billy.”
The trailer picks up where Chapter 1 left off. Jess Bradfordthe iconic final girl of the franchise, is alive. However, she has been captured, along with her granddaughter Sam, by Agnes and Billy. The official plot synopsis for the film reads as follows:
“Hidden deep within the walls of Jess Bradford’s mansion lies the evidence that will exonerate her ex-boyfriend Peter Smythe and expose the real Bedford murderers of 1974. Picking up right where we left off,
Chapter 1
Once it’s over, Sam and her grandmother, now trapped and alone, must fight against the clutches of the evil of Christmas before they are swallowed up by its darkness.”
The trailer is packed with chilling atmosphere, clever references to the original Frozen Nightmare, and a ringtone that will instantly bring back repressed traumas for longtime fans.
Who stars in “It’s Me Billy: Chapter 2”?
Cast members returning from Chapter 1 include Victory MeroIt’s SamDear Coltmanit’s Agnese, AND Charles PeterBilly. Sam has become the final final girl of the franchise, but that doesn’t mean Chapter 2 he forgot his roots. Lynne Griffin will make a Black Christmas I’m back as Nancy. Griffin played Clare in the original 1974 film, who was Billy’s infamous first on-screen victim on that ill-fated December night. The plastic bag murder remains one of horror’s most disturbing.
Nancy is Clare’s sister and a detective who has been trying to solve her cold case for decades. She is convinced that Jess is alive, when no one else knows. This time Jess will also be present in the action, played this time by Lisa Kovacs. Olivia Hussey was originally set to reprise her role as Jess, but had to step down due to health reasons. The final key cast member is valleyMichael Concession as Detective Mike Hennie, who unsuccessfully tries to convince Nancy to drop the case. Speaking about their excitement for the upcoming release, the directors said:
“When we began this journey in 2019, our goal was to honor the original Black Christmas in the form of an unofficial fan sequel packaged in a professionally produced product from start to finish. But we knew we could only take the story so far, hence the cliffhanger ending to Chapter 1. We are so grateful that Black Christmas and horror fans from around the world stepped up and donated to our Indiegogo campaign so we could finish our story. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original Black Christmas and we are beyond excited to bring our two-part series and unofficial sequel to completion. We are truly honored to be a small part of an incredible legacy and thank horror and Black Christmas fans from around the world for their continued support.”
When is “It’s Me, Billy: Chapter 2” coming out?
It’s Me, Billy: Chapter 2 will be released for free on McRae’s YouTube channel on October 11, 2024. This is exactly the 50th anniversary of Black Christmas‘ original Canadian debut. In the meantime, you can watch the full trailer above. In an era when other classics like Halloween AND Don’t open that door have celebrated their major milestones, it’s great to see the horror community continue to honor the legendary power of Black Christmas.
