Cincinnati Open: Jack Draper’s run in the tournament ends in the quarterfinals with defeat to Holger Rune | Tennis News

Jack Draper’s journey at the Cincinnati Open ended in the quarterfinals, with a three-set elimination by Denmark’s Holger Rune.

The British number one had managed to recover from a one-set deficit in his previous two meetings, but was unable to repeat the feat against the number 15 seed, losing 6-4 6-2.

A tight first set was decided on the only break point, when Rune seized the opportunity.

The Dane made another break early in the second set and saved three break points on his serve, taking the only other opportunity on Draper’s serve in the 11th game before serving for the winner.

Top seed Jannick Sinner, who avenged last week’s defeat to Andrey Rublev in Montreal 4-6 7-5 6-4, will meet Alexander Zverev after the German beat Ben Shelton 3-6 7-6 7-5.
