In a recent development, Dogecoin Core is expected to undergo another major upgrade, which is important for the health of the network. The upgrade will introduce several important fixes, the main one being to increase trust in the system by not allowing malicious code to be added or an entity to take control of the network.
Protecting the Dogecoin Core
In a recent development, developer @chromatic_x on X (formerly Twitter) took to the social media platform to announce an upcoming update for Dogecoin Core. This update, known as Dogecoin Core 1.14.8, will allow for increased security when using the network.
According to the Dogecoin developer, the update is important because it is not possible to control every single line of code, especially not by one person. This means that users of the network, like other networks, must place their trust in others when using the network. But how do you ensure that this trust does not harm users?
This update ensures that a malicious client cannot get into the network to do a variety of things. This includes clogging the network, destroying things that have already been built, taking control of the network, or revealing users’ identities and private keys.
So, in the case of the latest update, multiple developers have to go through the build process in an effort to ensure that they get exactly the same output. Getting the same output means that the client works as it should, ensuring that while users have to trust people, they don’t have to do so blindly.
In the post, the developer revealed that the release of this update is imminent now because it has passed the stage where multiple developers were able to get the same output by running the build process. So, it is not far away since reproducibility has been achieved.
The Dogecoin developer warns that this process does not mean there will be no bugs or glitches. “We cannot offer you a guarantee of perfection. The software is too complex for that. We cannot afford that as an industry,” the developer said. {We can offer you transparency, however. That is a price we are always willing to pay.
Troubleshooting previous issues
While the current Dogecoin Core update may have its bugs and issues, its implementation is important as developers are moving to fix bugs in the previous version. Additionally, Github outlines that system fixes will be made, as well as test fixes.
Some of the fixes described include a CI update, as well as a TxRequestTracker fix. Additionally, there are updates to the blocked dependencies planned, with other maintainer activities following the update.
