Solanke, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, missed Bournemouth’s pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano last weekend with a foot injury.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou underlined the need for another centre-forward option when he said football.london: “You know, we play a certain way. We ask for certain things from a physical point of view, from the technical aspects, that he be a striker who fits that mold.
“It’s still the area of the park where we’re probably the least numerous in terms of the squad at the moment, so obviously that’s something we’ll be focusing on.”
Analysis: Solanke is ideal for Ange’s Spurs
Peter Smith of Vscek:
“Dominic Solanke could represent a turning point for Ange Postecoglou’s team.
“Spurs have been clamoring for a centre-forward since Harry Kane was sold last summer. Richarlison and Heung-Min Son both played that role, with the other moving to the left wing, at different times last season. But all Spurs fans know that Son is best from the wing, while Richarlison’s form and fitness have been unreliable.
“With Spurs back in European competition and looking for a high result, they needed a high-quality alternative. Solanke seems ideal.
“He scored 19 goals for Bournemouth last season and, at 26, the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker is enjoying his best period.
“He’s a real finisher, with 17 shots inside the box last season and, with Spurs ranked fourth in the Premier League for crosses per game in 2023/24, Solanke could be the man to finish those moves.”
