Doom and Doom II Get ‘Definitive’ Re-releases Packed with Updates

If you haven’t played Destiny OR Destiny II for a while — or forever — a new re-release that Bethesda surprise-released (sort of) on Thursday might be the perfect excuse to dive into the classics. The re-release, which combines both games into one package called Destiny + Destiny II and it’s a free upgrade for anyone who already owns Destiny (1993) OR Destiny IIoffers a long list of exciting new features, including a brand new single-player episode and a cross-platform online deathmatch multiplayer mode.

With Destiny + Destiny II, You’ll have access to both games as well as extra single-player content such as John Romero’s Seal episode released in 2019 and Rust Legacywhich is a novelty Destiny episode created by “individuals from id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames,” according to Bethesda. You’ll also be able to download single-player mods via a new in-game mod browser.

On the multiplayer front, Bethesda has added 25 new deathmatch maps, which means you’ll have 43 maps to choose from. Cross-platform deathmatch and co-op also support up to 16 players.

The combo pack will support up to 4K resolution and 120fps whether you’re playing on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox Series X/S. There’s also updated music for the games from Andrew Hulshult (who worked on the music for Doom Eternal: The Old Gods DLC) and you can switch between the newest and oldest tracks whenever you want.

There’s a lot more I haven’t touched on, and if you’re even slightly interested in this bundle, I recommend you read the extensive patch notes. The game is available on PC (via Steam, Windows Store, Epic Games Store, and GOG), Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

There was another nice retro piece Destiny news also announced today: Limited Run Games is working on a re-release of Destiny on SNES. The game is scheduled for release in 2025, and of course, only 666 copies will be made.
