There’s a really cool new benefit for Frontier Airlines World Mastercard® holders: free checked bags.
The card has an annual fee of $99 ($0 introductory annual fee for the first year), but the new free checked bag benefit makes it even more attractive.
Starting Thursday, you can enjoy two free checked bags on all Frontier Airlines-operated flights when you pay with your Frontier Airlines World Mastercard. (Note: This benefit will apply to future bookings made with the card, but not to previously booked travel.)
New cardholders also receive instant Frontier Elite Gold status for 90 days after their first purchase with the card. This status can be extended to 12 months by spending $3,000 within the first 90 days of enrollment.
Benefits include:
- No change/cancellation penalty (more than seven days before departure)
- Standard seat assignment at the time of booking
- Priority Customer Support
- Priority Boarding: Zone 2
- Free hand luggage
- Premium seating at check-in
The card also offers other benefits, including the ability to share Frontier miles with other family members, receive priority boarding, and earn credit toward Elite status.

Plus, you won’t have to pay fees for award flights paid for with your card, and you won’t have to pay foreign transaction fees.
“This new benefit, combined with existing benefits like Instant Elite Gold status and miles that never expire, makes our card a must-have for any traveler looking to maximize value and convenience on every flight,” said Bobby Schroeter, chief commercial officer, Frontier Airlines, in a statement.

Keep in mind that you will need to purchase the flight using the card (as with United Airlines’ free checked baggage policy). It appears that World Mastercards like this one do not come with travel protection, so that’s an important thing to consider.
Other things to note:
- Tickets must be purchased on flyfrontier.com or through the Frontier Airlines mobile app.
- There is no limit to the number of times you can use this benefit.
- The free checked baggage benefit includes golf and ski equipment.

In conclusion
The Frontier World Mastercard suddenly makes more sense for frequent Frontier travelers. Free checked bags and temporary Gold status, plus previous perks like family mileage pooling, waived award booking fees, and elite qualification miles, make this card much more valuable than the annual fee.
