  • NEON’s record-breaking year for horror continues with
    Cuckoo

with Nicolas Cage in a chilling role.

In most circumstances, if Dan Stevens (Abigail) stopped in his car and offered us a ride, we would have jumped in before he could finish his sentence. But we might reconsider after seeing Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) take advantage of this in a new exclusive for Collider, a preview of the couple’s next horror film, Cuckoo. NEON’s latest scarefest centers on a teenager named Gretchen (Schafer) who leaves her life in America behind to start over with her father at a beautiful resort in the German Alps. Sure, the location is nothing short of scenic and breathtaking, but there’s something strange going on both inside and outside the hotel premises. When she begins hearing and seeing strange and disturbing things, the resort’s owners claim that Gretchen is losing her mind. But has she truly become disconnected from reality, or is there something more sinister at play?

In Collider’s exclusive preview, viewers will see a particularly tense interaction between Gretchen and Herr König (Stevens). Clearly, the young woman has already he experienced something harmful as his head is tightly bandaged and he has bruises around his eye. When Herr König catches Gretchen looking at the cuckoo memorabilia that decorates the interior of his vehicle, he lectures her about the “magnificent creature.” Clearly a metaphor for whatever bizarre thing is actually going on at the resort, Stevens’ character continues to break down the bird’s unique behavior.

Driven by Singer Tilman (Light), Cuckoo also features performances by Jessica Henwick (The Gray Man), Marton Csokas (Sleeping Dogs), Greta Fernandez (A Thief’s Daughter), Astrid Berges-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) AND Jan Bluthardt (Light).

NEON’s Record Year for Horror Films

Cuckoo comes right after NEON box office smash horror movie, Long legswhich presents Nicholas Cage as the titular serial killer. And yes, we find it odd that Longlegs says the word “cuckoo” a handful of times during the film and that the studio’s next horror film is titled Cuckoo. Coincidence? Probably. However, if you haven’t seen it Long legs For now, we’d say this is truly one of Cage’s most unique feats, and that’s saying a lot considering the actor’s long career. Protagonist in front Beautiful Monroe‘S (Follows) FBI Agent Cage’s Longlegs draws the detective into a sinister game of cat and mouse.

With CuckooNEON also has a handful of other titles that will be released in theaters in the coming months and into the coming year. These include Finding Mavis Beacon, StillAND The monkey.

Check out Collider’s exclusive preview on Cuckoo above and watch it in theaters on August 9th.
