When Emily in Paris‘ Lily Collins encountered Charlie McDowellhe immediately felt love for it.
“We’re both in the industry and have parents who work in a similar industry, but we actually met by chance,” said the actress, who is the daughter of Philosophy AND Author: Jill Tavelmansaid Ellen DeGeneres in 2022 on his relationship with the director, whose parents are Malcolm McDowell AND Maria Steenburgen“So we were a little surprised that we hadn’t met yet. We’d been in the same room so many times and we’d never met. But it was kind of like one of those cheesy but real love-at-first-sight things.”
The couple, who worked together in Golden Rage AND Manna—made their romance Instagram official in 2019. The following year, they got engaged in New Mexico during a road trip, with Charlie proposing with a rose-cut diamond ring.
The two married in a private ceremony in Colorado in 2021 and have continued to conquer the world together.
“We can conquer anything,” Lily told E! the following year. “We’ve been through so much change globally, personally. And to have a partner that makes you laugh when you need it the most and helps you emotionally through things like moving to a foreign country for four months, I feel so grateful to have someone there for me to help me get through that and your best friend with you the whole time.”
