The singer’s family says the anthem was used at least 134 times at various political events between 2022 and 2024 without permission. Trump most notably performed the song in Harrisburg, PA in July… where he used the song to close his rally.
Hayes, who died in August 2008 at age 65 after suffering a stroke, wrote “Hold On, I’m Comin'” with David Porter for the soul duo Sam & Dave in 1966. Hayes’ son, Isaac Hayes IIIstates that the song’s royalties reverted to the Hayes family in March 2022.
Hayes’ son says the family wants Trump to stop using the song, remove all videos it may be featured in, and issue a statement clarifying that the estate never authorized its use… oh, and there’s also the $3 million in licensing fees, which they say is actually a discount!
The family is also serious… Isaac said they would take further legal action if Trump and his team did not comply.
This isn’t the first time a music artist has publicly opposed Trump’s use of his music. In fact, Celine Dion Also he issued a similar warning over the weekend… after Trump used “My Heart Will Go On” at his Montana rally.
