John Cena’s Return in Fast & Furious 11 Seems Even More Unlikely After Major Update

Summary

  • WWE commitments may prevent John Cena from returning to the Fast & Furious franchise for the final installment in 2026.
  • The fate of Cena’s character, Jakob Toretto, in the previous film poses a challenge to his potential return in Fast & Furious 11.
  • The series’ crowded cast of big names and stars leaves little room for Cena’s character to fit into the plot.

by John Cena Fast and Furious 11 return seems to be in jeopardy thanks to a big update regarding the actor. After making his debut in the franchise as the main antagonist in F9, Cena’s role as Jakob Toretto was a fun part of the series and fit perfectly into the action saga.. It is one of the many Fast and furious villains turned heroes, and since Jakob is the protagonist’s brother, it makes sense that he eventually teams up with the main group, especially since it allows Cena to showcase his comedic chops.

He was a fantastic addition to the franchise and helped elevate both films he was a part of, proving Fast and furious made a big decision by bringing him on the hit show. However, the actor’s chances of returning for the final installment have drastically decreased after a big announcement, namely John Cena’s return as Jakob in Fast and Furious 11 seems less likely than ever. Despite being incredibly active since making the transition from wrestling to acting, Cena has confirmed a project that could take up most of his 2025, which leaves little time for a final goodbye.

John Cena’s WWE Plans Make His Fast & Furious Return Nearly Impossible

Cena will spend most of 2025 with WWE, leaving little time for a Fast & Furious return

While it would be awesome to see John Cena reprise his Fast and furious role in the final film, seems incredibly unlikely after the actor announced his return to WWE. During the 2024 Money in the Bank event, Cena showed up to reveal that he would have one last run with the company in 2025. Instead of simply returning for one match and riding off into the sunset, the 16-time world champion confirmed that he would be working throughout the year. Cena mentioned his participation in the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania as significant to his F&F 11 possibility.

The final Fast and furious The film is said to begin shooting in early 2025which Cena seems unlikely to be available for. Given that it is his final run with the company, he will likely be heavily involved in wrestling for the majority of the year, taking on only a few smaller projects in between. While Cena’s retirement from WWE could be a positive for his film franchises after 2025, his best chance of a Fast and furious the return now appears to be in the form of a spin-off, rather than the final main film in the saga.

John Cena’s return in Fast & Furious 11 has already faced some huge challenges

Jakob Toretto’s Fast X finale seemingly wrapped up the character’s story

While John Cena’s run in WWE will undoubtedly be the biggest obstacle blocking his Fast and Furious 11 return, there were already a lot of other challenges. The biggest of these was Jakob’s fate in the previous film, as Cena’s character was apparently killed off towards X fastThe climax. While the franchise has previously brought back characters who appeared to have been killed off, revealing that Jakob is still alive in Fast and furious would have had little impact considering that the public did not have time to miss it. Furthermore, X fast has already brought back some big names, which means Cena’s presence is less necessary.

Choosing to go through with Jakob’s death would make the feud between Dom and Dante more personal.

The Rock’s appearance in X fast essentially replaces Cena’s star power, while Gal Gadot’s return as Giselle all but confirms Jakob’s Fast and furious death. Bringing back these beloved characters doesn’t really provide a reason to force Cena into the narrative, especially when the likes of Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and Alan Ritchson have recently joined the franchise. With so many great characters and stars, there’s little room for Cena’s character in the story, and choosing to continue with Jakob’s death would make the feud between Dom and Dante more personal in Fast and Furious 11.
