She continued, “I was in a vulnerable position, like, ‘I have nothing to protect me, I’m completely broken, so maybe now I can hear you more, and even though I didn’t think you were sympathetic at the time, maybe you are, and now I can actually receive it because my guard is down and my heart is open.’ And that’s how it happened when we really went through more healing and communication as adults.”

THE Safe Haven The star also reflected on the process of losing her power through these experiences and subsequently regaining her voice.

“I think being so young,” she began, “and these are your first experiences, whether they’re physical, mental, sexual, those abuses of power over someone who’s vulnerable to them, they immediately set a precedent of, ‘Other people have the power.’”

He explained how, in turn, he built “layers of protection” around himself, but noted, “As you build layers, you get further and further away from your authentic truth and yourself. And so that was the delay in really trying to figure out, like, ‘What is my voice?'”
