A CrossFit Games competitor has died while competing in a swimming competition.
Lazar Dukic was competing at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday morning when he disappeared underwater.
Emergency services were called around 8am local time after receiving a report that “there was a participant in the water who had sunk and had not been seen for some time”.

After the search began with the help of a team of divers and drones, the athlete’s body was found about an hour after the first divers entered.
After his death, all other events on the first day of the games were cancelled.

CrossFit CEO Don Faul said in a press conference that organizers are “deeply saddened” by the death and are cooperating with authorities in the further investigation.
He added: “We are doing everything in our power at this tragic time to support the family and our community.”
Mr Faul also confirmed that CrossFit had security personnel on site during the swim.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet released a cause of death for Dukic.
Dukic’s bio on the CrossFit website states that he was the third-ranked CrossFit athlete in Serbia and 88th in the world.
CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen that involves competing in a variety of high-intensity movements. Sky News has contacted CrossFit for comment.
