Luke Littler defeats Jonny Tata to reach New Zealand Masters quarter-finals as Luke Humphries and Rob Cross also win | Darts News

Young talent Luke Littler reached the quarter-finals of the New Zealand Masters on Friday.

The 17-year-old hit three 180s to beat home hope Jonny Tata 6-3 and set up a quarter-final clash with Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh.

“I felt really good when I started playing and I’m glad I was able to bring that feeling to the stage,” admitted the 17-year-old star.

“Nothing happened in the final last weekend, so I had to get up and go again. I’m happy with my performance.

“I would love to win here and get another title. It would mean a lot to win this, and I can’t wait to play again.”

World number one Luke Humphries also won 6-3 against young New Zealander Kayden Milne.

Humphries will next face Michael Smith, who has won the last four heats, securing a 6-3 victory over Jeremy Fagg.

“Kayden is a fantastic player, so I knew I had to give it my all,” Humphries said.

“I wasn’t at my best yet. I think I’m still acclimating to the time zones, but I really enjoyed it here.

“We are privileged to have these amazing opportunities to travel the world and entertain the fans. I hope I can give my best tomorrow and lift the title.”

Rob Cross won the final decider, overcoming Haupai Puha, and will meet Damon Heta, who defeated fellow Australian Simon Whitlock 6-1.

“Haupai played brilliantly on his shot. It was clinical,” Cross said.

“I thought I would have to hit a 12-darter on the last leg if I wanted to get through, but in the end I got a bit lucky.

“It’s great to be playing in the World Series and now I have to give my best for tomorrow, where I hope to play a little better.”

Gerwyn Price beat Ben Robb 6-3 to book a meeting with Peter Wright, who seized the opportunity to beat Daniel Snookes 6-0.
