Gena Rowlandswho played Allie on “The Notebook” has died, Vscek has learned.
The retired actress died Wednesday afternoon at her home in Indian Wells, California… where she was surrounded by family, including her husband, Robertoand his daughter Alexandra Cassavetes.
We were told that his son, the director Nick Cassaveteshe had been at home often this week too.
While there is no official cause of death yet, Gena was battling Alzheimer’s disease.
As we reported, Nick announced Gena’s diagnosis in June… on the twentieth anniversary of “The Notebook”, which he directed. The character of Gena in the film also suffered from the same disease.
At the time, Nick said that Gena had actually been battling Alzheimer’s for 5 years and was “in full dementia.”
Gena – the actress’s daughter Mrs. RowlandsDiagnosed with Alzheimer’s before her death, she retired from Hollywood in 2015 after winning four Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes and two Oscar nominations.
She collaborated with her first husband, the director John Cassaveteson numerous occasions… including “Gloria” and “A Woman Under the Influence”.
Gena leaves behind Robert, who she has been married to since 2012, and her 3 children… Nick, Alexandra and Zoe Cassavetes.
He was 94 years old.
