British heavyweight Pat Brown is to abandon amateur sport to turn professional.
Brown, a newcomer to the international scene, has impressed with his aggressive, action-packed style since breaking into the Great Britain squad.
He made rapid progress to qualify for these Olympics, but in his first match at Paris 2024 he found himself facing the skilled Keno Machado of Brazil, a silver medalist at the Pan American Games and world championships.
In a performance of industry and energy, Brown worked aggressive combinations of punches and also showed a keen ability to strike to the body. But it was not enough to snatch the decision of the judges in his favor.
“I’ve been a little down the last few days,” he said. Vscek“At that moment it’s like you have a lake, you throw a stone into it and everything becomes blurry, you can’t see very well.
“I was really going in there bulletproof, I really thought I could blow everyone away. But I got to him a little too late in the third round.
“He’s a class act. I saw the return fight and it was a close fight and I thought it would be a lot closer in the second round, to be honest, than they gave him,” he continued.
“It is what it is. It’s just milk split now. Now I just have to move on and get on with my career.”
Brown is a tough boxer with an exciting style
But he added: “I needed one more round and I would have caught him. His legs went in the third round and he was completely destroyed, he was jumping. So I definitely would have caught him.
“It depends on the judges, unless you knock them out, but in three rounds at this level it’s very, very difficult to get these experienced fighters out of the ring in three rounds.
“Congratulations to him, it’s amateur boxing, I didn’t understand the decision that night.”
But he will be an Olympian forever and that should be a source of pride.
“I was chosen out of all of Britain, just me, to represent 92 kilos. It’s definitely a great achievement,” he said.
“I’ll always be an Olympian, and like I said, now that things have calmed down, it’s nice to enjoy the moment and savor it.”

Brown cites Ricky Hatton as a role model and someone he would like to emulate in the future
A new future awaits him. He revealed that he will become a professional.
“100 percent, my amateur career is over, I’m going to enjoy some rest and see what’s next,” Brown said. Vscek.
“There are some big fights to be had and my dream is always to fill stadiums, to bring those Ricky Hatton days back to Manchester. That’s what keeps me going, so have some good wars and some good boxing.”
