If you like kitschy horror movies, you’ll find something funny in All my friends are dead. Directed by Mark Dunstanthe stars of the film Jade Pettyjohn like Sarah, a girl who goes on a trip with her “friends”. But despite all their social media followers, Sarah would rather be out of the picture. They are all together after the death of their friend Colette (JoJo Siwa) and when their car breaks down, the group has to stay in an Airbnb until it gets fixed.

This premise isn’t much different from most slasher films, but what works for All my friends are dead that’s it recognizes which is not so unique. Just when I wanted to make fun of the fact that this wasn’t an original way to kill someone, the film itself says so. Shot with the energy of 80s slasher films but with the modern touch of iPhones playing a big part in the story, the film offers a new generation a way to watch slasher films. Horror as a genre can say a lot and what All my friends are dead she’s saying on social media and the connectivity gets a bit lost at the end of the movie when all her secrets start to leak out. Sarah as a main character is not, however, the downfall of this movie.

“All My Friends Are Dead” Proves Pettyjohn Is Horror’s New Darling

I’ve loved Pettyjohn since he starred in Karyn Kusama’s film Destroyer, but it was amazing to see how Well is playing a “final girl” tease. In our modern sensibilities, we can watch old slasher movies and recognize them right away. Even if we didn’t know it My Friend Jamie Lee Curtis it was their project in Halloweennow we can watch that movie and see the elements that characterize her “final girl” character.

From the moment we meet Pettyjohn in the film, she has that feeling. You know through it all that if anyone could get out of this alive, it was her. And not in an “oh, that’s obvious” way or even a spoiler way. She’s just the only character we meet who has any kind of head on her shoulder. Pettyjohn’s portrayal of Sarah is up there with some of the best horror performances and It is a driving force in everything All my friends are dead.

“All My Friends Are Dead” Has a New Kind of “Scream” Vibe

Maybe it’s the social media addiction of these characters or just the way Dunstan filmed it to make it Touch as if it was shot with an iPhone, but something in this movie seems new Cry-type of franchising. Whether this is a one-off slasher film or one with the potential for more is still up in the air at the end of the film, but I like the idea of ​​continuing this story. Each of Sarah’s so-called “friends” is more insipid than the last. That doesn’t make their deaths any less sad, but it’s that kind of sick satisfaction you get from watching a slasher movie, when you don’t necessarily care about the people you’re watching, because sooner or later they’re going to meet an untimely demise.

With all these influencers being taken out in absolutely horrendous ways it’s hard to watch, but that’s also how the genre works. I wish we could play more with the seven deadly sins aspect of it all because they admit to other assassins who do this, and while we didn’t see it happen in this movie, I wouldn’t be mad if this turned into a new kind of franchise for these characters. What I think is so funny All my friends are dead as a slasher it doesn’t take itself too seriously. And it still manages to throw in a twist that will leave you wanting more stories from this universe. So if you’re in the mood for a good slasher movie that doesn’t try to reinvent the genre, then All my friends are dead it’s perfect!
