Rocco Super Smart Refrigerator Review: An Interesting Topic of Conversation

Likewise, there’s Smart mode, which makes it act more like a thermostat when the fridge is at a warmer temperature. There’s also Party mode, which prioritizes keeping drinks cold over making less noise. After a few minutes, I could hear the compressor getting a little louder. I opened it a few minutes later, and it was noticeably colder in there. (Rocco gives a temperature range of 37 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit.)

But if I want the drinks to stay colder while I’m hosting a party where people are opening them a lot, I could just turn the temperature down to where I want it. I don’t really see the need for all these modes. Using a wireless Bluetooth thermometer, I tested the temperature changes inside the fridge for each mode to make sure they were working properly. I gave each one 10 minutes to change and tested each shelf on both ends of the fridge. I was happy to find that they were all within a few degrees of what the fridge indicated.

The other main feature of the app is the vision system. When you first set up the app, sensors in the fridge scan everything you store in it. Each drink then appears on your app, organized by drawer. I have some pretty obscure drinks in it, like the OoMee seaweed infused drink and Yaté yerba mate, and it recognized most of them, so I was impressed, although a few, like my Dolin vermouth, which is one of the more popular vermouth brands, didn’t.

Nutrition data also appears for each drink, although many of them are incomplete. In theory, you could go to the grocery store and see which drinks you’re running low on just by looking at the app. I found I didn’t do that much, although I was curious if I was running low on LaCroix once and checked the app to see that I definitely was. So that was helpful.

However, the system isn’t perfect. It currently shows that I still have a LaCroix, even though I haven’t had one in there for a couple weeks. I’d love it if I could buy something I’m running low on right from the app.

The dual temperature system also allows you to set half of the fridge to one temperature and the other to another, which you can adjust manually or via the app. While this is important for storing seltzers and wines at different temperatures, this is a feature found on many wine fridges, so it’s not unique to the Rocco Fridge.

Timeless design

The Rocco has a bit of a mid-century vibe, but it’s also contemporary. I love the fluted glass door, which is gorgeous when it’s nighttime and the interior lights shine through. It becomes a conversation piece whenever someone comes into my apartment. You can turn the light on and off and adjust the brightness from the app.

The top of the fridge is flat and sturdy, so it doubles as a bar cart. The raised lip on the sides also helps so that the bottles I put on them are less likely to fall over. I have a bar cart that overflows with bottles, so it’s nice to have it right next to me for a little overflow.
