Meanwhile, Lively’s romantic drama It ends with us exceeded expectations upon its debut, securing a solid second place. Together, the pair’s films have grossed over $100 million, cementing their status as box office magnets.

That’s a significant late-summer win, especially considering the film’s modest production budget of $25 million. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Hits $1 Billion While ‘It Ends With Us’ Soars


As for Reynolds, Deadpool and Wolverine continued to dominate the box office, grossing nearly $55 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $500 million. The film is on track to surpass the $600 million mark domestically, cementing its place among the highest-grossing Marvel films of all time. Globally, the film surpassed the coveted $1 billion mark this weekend, becoming the 11th MCU film to reach that milestone. It is also on track to surpass The Joker $1.07 billion total loot, positioning Deadpool and Wolverine as the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, a mark it will surpass this week.

In third place, the Universal disaster film The tornadoes added an estimated $15 million in its fourth weekend, bringing its domestic total to over $220 million. Despite struggling in international markets, the film managed to cross the $300 million mark globally, a respectable feat given its reported $150 million budget, with the film set to hit PVOD tomorrow. Meanwhile, Despicable Me 4 continued its steady run, adding $8 million in its sixth weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $330 million and its global gross to over $800 million.


Not all releases were so lucky this weekend. Lionsgate’s Borderlandsa long-delayed video game adaptation, got off to a slow start with a $9 million debut, placing fourth. Plagued by production issues, including the writer Craig Mazin removing his name from the credits and Tim Miller take over from the director Eli Roth During reshoots, the film was met with harsh criticism. It currently holds a 10% “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a D+ CinemaScore, Borderlands will likely have difficulties in the next few weeks.

All eyes will be on Disney next weekend Alien: Romuluswhich the studio hopes will surpass the last two Alien-adjacent films, Prometheus AND Alien: PactBoth films, despite considerable hype, disappointed at the box office, grossing $51 million and $36 million respectively in the US. Disney is undoubtedly banking on Alien: Romulus to breathe new life into the franchise.
