Scottish Premiership Preview: Who will win this weekend? | Football News

There’s another action-packed weekend ahead for the Scottish Premiership, with a game Live on Sky Sport.

Vscek cameras will be at Easter Road on Sunday for the Hibernian clash with Celtic, with all other games covered on Vscek News and in our live blog on the Vscek app and website.

Let’s take a look at what’s at stake this weekend…

What’s live on Sky?

Sunday 11th August at 11:30am

Start at 12:30

Hibernian have had a difficult start to the season, losing 3-0 to St Mirren, and it is unlikely to be any easier on matchday two.

They host champions Celtic, live on Sky, who comfortably won 4-0 against Kilmarnock in their opening game of the new season.

David Gray has been busy in the transfer window this week, with the arrivals of Nicky Cadden, Junior Hoilett and Kieron Bowie, all of whom are available for Sunday’s match.

Celtic’s Matt O’Riley is virtually certain to start, given the ongoing interest in the midfielder: since the start of the 2022/23 season he has registered at least one assist against 11 of the 12 teams he has faced in the league; the only team he has failed to register is Hibernian in eight games.

Philippe Clement’s side were due to play their first game of the season at Ibrox, but will face Motherwell at Hampden Park due to delays with work on the Copeland Stand.

Rangers’ last game at the National Stadium was a 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat in May, while Wells manager Stuart Kettlewell has never taken charge of a match there.

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell reflects on the injury problems at Fir Park, with eight first-team players set to miss Saturday’s trip to Rangers at Hampden Park.

Rangers’ last-gasp draw against Dynamo Kiev in their Champions League qualifier will have given them confidence after their opening-day goalless draw at Hearts.

Motherwell, who have eight first-team players injured, are also looking for their first win of the new season, following a 0-0 draw with Ross County last weekend.

Jimmy Thelin became the first Aberdeen manager to win his first five games in charge as the team followed up their League Cup group stage success with a 2-1 win at St Johnstone in their Premiership opener.

He will be looking to impress his players in their first home league game, but it will be a test against St Mirren, who shocked Hibernian with a 3-0 win in their opening game.

The Buddies will also be encouraged by Toyosi Olusanya’s late goal against Brann in the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

St Mirren have won two of their last three league trips to Pittodrie, having failed to win any of their previous 15.

After last weekend’s dramatic Dundee derby, United head north to Dingwall to face Ross County, who also opened the new season with a draw.

Jim Goodwin’s side celebrated their return to the Premiership with a 2-2 draw against their city rivals but will be looking to keep a rare clean sheet in the top flight, having managed to do so just once in their last 20 games.

The Staggies have lost three of their last four league games against newly promoted sides and lost three of their four games against Dundee United in the 2020/21 season, when they had just returned to the Championship.

Dundee have not had a good run of defeats against Hearts in the top flight, having lost their last three meetings, and will be determined to avoid winning four games in a row for the first time since 2004.

Their first home game of the Premiership season also went poorly, having suffered one defeat in their last 11 games.

Tony Docherty’s side will take confidence from their comeback to draw 2-2 at Dundee United last weekend, while the Jambos are yet to score a goal this season, having drawn 0-0 with Rangers in their opening game.

Kilmarnock will be hoping to repeat their 1-0 win against Rangers in their first home game of last season as they look to bounce back from defeat to Celtic last weekend.

Following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen, St Johnstone manager Craig Levein said it was a shame for the team not to have picked up a point in their first game of the season.

St Johnstone also lost their first game as they had to settle for a consolation goal in the dying minutes against Aberdeen.

Craig Levein praised his new team despite the defeat, hoping to look forward to this season rather than simply look back.
