After more than three decades of supreme reign of Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan has fully earned the title of King Khan with a prolific filmography to back it up. However, SRK has now clearly set his sights on becoming King of the Jungle as he lends his legendary voice to the beloved character of Mufasa for the Hindi dubbed release of Disneythe latest live-action remake of Mufasa: The Lion King.
The film is set as a prequel to the 2019 hit The Lion Kingrevealing Mufasa’s origin story for the first time. Directed by Author: Barry JenkinsThe tale blends past and present, following young Mufasa on his journey to greatness (a story never told by Disney until now) and his inevitable destiny as ruler of Pride Rock, as he delves deeper into Simba’s present-day kingdom.
In the film’s new dubbed trailer, Khan takes on the titular hero’s lead role, delivering his gravelly voice as he roars across the Pride Lands and battles his younger brother Scar, who later becomes his greatest enemy. Khan’s voice is especially distinctive during emotional speeches, leaning into the same overt sincerity that audiences have adored for decades.
To give even more heart to the project, SRK is joined by his children Aryan Khanwho gives voice to Simba, and Abraham Khanwhich is the voice of young Mufasa.
Shah Rukh Khan had a record year in 2023 with three major film releases
Khan’s legacy in Bollywood is largely rooted in romance, however, after a lifetime of wooing his audience, the actor made the decision to step away from this type of role partly because he felt too old for it and partly because he wanted to explore other avenues. Since then, SRK has had a successful couple of years as he has confidently secured his place as an action hero, reviving his legacy in Indian cinema for generations to come. The series of great theatrical successes, which includes epic record-breaking works Pathan, youngand the third of his theatrical releases in 2023 Crushedsaw the star set new box office records and then break them himself.
Mufasa further cements Khan’s commitment to expanding his impressive catalogue of over 100 films that showcase his diversity as an actor. The film is not the first time that SRK has stepped behind the screen and the microphone for Disney as he had previously voiced the King of the Jungle in The Lion King in 2019.
