Tessarion, the new dragon in season 2 of “House of the Dragon,” explained

Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of House of the Dragon.

The big picture

  • Tessarion, the cobalt blue dragon, is a unique and beautiful addition to the Dragons in
    House of the Dragon
    .
  • Prince Daeron and Tessarion could prove to be key players for the Greens in season three.
  • Tessarion’s blue fire sets her apart from other dragons, making her a deadly yet surprising force to be reckoned with.

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) may have found new riders for his dragons, but the Greens still have a few hidden aces. In the season two finale of House of the Dragonthey bring out not one, but two new dragons, and one of them is a sight to behold. All dragons are, really, but the smaller, cobalt-blue dragon that flies above Hightower’s army as it marches toward King’s Landing in the season’s final sequence is something else. This is Tessarion, Prince Daeron Targaryen’s young female dragon, who has yet to appear in the series. She’s special for a number of reasons and fans have waited a long time to see her in live-action, even if it was for a very brief moment.

Tessarion is a unique dragon in the “Game of Thrones” franchise

What we see of Tessarion in the season finale is nothing more than what was already shown in the promo for the episode. She appears only briefly, as a harbinger of all the bad things to come for the war, as House Hightower’s army marches from Oldtown toward King’s Landing. However, it’s enough to notice a few things about her. She may not look like much, but she is actually a unique dragon, not only in House of the Dragonbut overall game of Thrones franchise. At this point in the story, she is still young, hence her smaller size, but she has some traits and characteristics that really make her stand out.

The Blacks have just strengthened their ranks by adding three dragons to their roster: Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew) Vermithor, Ulf the White (Tom Bennett) Silverwing and Addam of Hull (Clinton’s Freedom) Seasmoke. However, it seems that the Greens have the most beautiful dragons of the war (aside from Vhagar, of course). Tessarion is perhaps the most beautiful of all, compared only to Helaena’s (Phia Saban) Dreamfyre. It has cobalt blue scales and its tips and wings are copper colored.which has earned her the nickname “Blue Queen”. She is still young and small at the moment, but will eventually grow to three-thirds the size of Vermithor, a size that is already lethal for a flying beast that rains fire from the sky.

Speaking of fire, Tessarion is also unique in this aspect. Dragon fire is known to be different from normal fire; it is stronger, hotter, and has some explosive qualities. However, it looks just like normal fire and all dragons in the series so far have it. Tessarion, however, is the only dragon to breathe blue fire in Westeros.. Its flames are as beautiful as its scales and are a splendid display of deadly power because it is as evil as ordinary dragon fire. In game of Thronesafter Viserion is resurrected by the Night King (Vladimir Furdik), also breathes blue fire, but for different reasons. Viserion never truly comes back to life, and his blue fire is proof that the creature is now zombified, and not the same dragon that was once Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) child. Tessarion’s flames, on the other hand, are naturally blue.

Why hasn’t Tessarion appeared in “House of the Dragon” so far?

Prince Daeron Targaryen is the fourth and youngest son of King Viserys (Paddy Considina) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke). As such, it was very difficult for him to have any chance of becoming heir to the Iron Throne, as there were at least three people ahead of him: Rhaenyra herself, Aegon (Tom Glynn Carney), and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell). AS he was sent to foster care in OldtownThere, he was squire and cupbearer to Alicent’s cousin and head of House Hightower, Lord Ormund Hightower.

In Fire and BloodDaeron spent more time in King’s Landing as a child and He became attached to Tessarion when he was six years old. He could not ride the dragon until she was grown and fully grown, but the bond had been established, so she was taken with him to Oldtown. In episode 7 of this season, “The Red Sowing,” Tessarion is finally said to have taken flight, shortly before Aemond sees Silverwing flying over King’s Landing with Ulf the White on his back. According to Lord Jasper Wylde (Paul Kennedy), the Master of Laws in the Green Council, Lord Ormund Hightower’s army is on its way to King’s Landing, with Daeron and Tessarion have finally joined them.

Daeron and Tessarion will play key roles for the Greens in season three

While there is still no news on casting for the third season of House of the DragonDaeron is expected to finally show up, and with him, Tessarion. He is known to be a handsome and courtly young man, the first in his branch of the family, and the knightly traits are usually taken from their dragon as well. Young and light, Tessarion is said to be swift and agile when flying.which could be an advantage when it comes time to take the field.

In the book Fire and BloodDaeron and Tessarion perform some brave deeds before joining the main battles of the Dance of the Dragons. As soon as the two reach the Hightower host, they are attacked by an army of House Beesbury. on the road, who are furious with the Greens since Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) killed Lord Lyman Beesbury (The Patterson Account). This is also part of Lord Jasper’s report to Aemond in “The Red Sowing”. The Hightowers are losing and about to be defeated by the Beesburys, until Daeron shows up on Tessarion’s back at the last moment, burning the enemy troops. This earns Daeron the nickname “Daeron the Bold” from Lord Ormund.

After this, their path is clear to Tumbleton, as no one wants to face a dragon in battle. If House of the Dragon is to follow faithfullyFire and BloodAlthough, Daeron and Tessarion might have some trouble getting past Tumbletonas the market town is the site of a number of major battles in the war, and many dragons are involved. We hope, however, to see the Blue Queen in all her blue-flaming glory.
