The upcoming Star Wars TV series features a planet incredibly similar to Earth… and that’s the point

Summary

  • Skeleton Crew features an Earth-like planet, prompting criticism from fans.
  • The show is a wish-fulfilling experience for kids, allowing them to imagine entering the Star Wars galaxy, just like the four children of Skeleton Crew will do after accidentally leaving their home planet, very similar to ours.
  • The familiar, Earth-like setting is central to the entire premise of the series.

Star Wars the next show features a planet that looks a lot like Earth. Trying to be the home of Skeleton Crew four main stars, this world more closely resembles our own planet than any other world ever seen in the galaxy far, far away. While this has drawn some criticism from some quarters of the Star Wars fandom, it seems the point has been missed.

Released online following its debut during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the very first trailer for Skeleton Crew has been released. Starring Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Wim, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Fern, Kyriana Kratter as KB, and Robert Timothy Smith as Neel, these four kids will find themselves accidentally lost in the far reaches of the Star Wars galaxy and is eventually aided by a Force user named Jod Na Naworrd (Jude Law). However, Skeleton Crew The first trailer confirms that their adventure will begin on a planet that looks surprisingly familiar (which is exactly the point).

Earth-like planet in Skeleton Crew

Seen right at the beginning of the trailer, Skeleton Crew a group of young characters are seen boarding a bus to go to school, while also preparing for an important exam. The houses feature green lawns, streetlights, and even sidewalks and paved roads. That said, there are still droids and classic alien species on this world, including the Ithorians and Neel, who is a blue Ortolan. Likewise, the children’s vehicles and bicycles still hover above the ground.

However, there is no denying that this new Star Wars the planet is the most similar to Earth that has ever been seen before. As such, this is something that has naturally attracted criticism, with some expressing their distaste for the world, wondering why anyone would want to see a planet that looks so much like the real world. However, the images of this planet are undoubtedly crucial to everything else Skeleton Crew has in store.

It should be the fulfillment of children’s wishes

After being inspired by Amblin Entertainment features like AND OR The GooniesJon Watt and Christopher Ford Skeleton Crew tells the story of a group of kids who inadvertently find themselves catapulted into an adventure they had only ever dreamed of. As such, the show will serve as the children’s main wish fulfillment in the real world, imagining if they themselves could be whisked away at the speed of light in the Star Wars the galaxy itselfWith this in mind, it is important that their home planet feels as familiar to Earth as possible (while still making sense within the larger Star Wars canon).
