Tristan Sailor, son of international football star Wendell Sailor, will join St Helens on a two-year deal from the start of the 2025 Betfred Super League season.
The 26-year-old full-back will leave the Brisbane Broncos at the end of the current season and join new assistant coach Lee Briers in his move from the NRL side to the nine-time Super League champions.
Sailor began his career at another of his father’s former teams, the St George Illawarra Dragons, and already has a good idea of what to expect at Totally Wicked Stadium thanks to one of his old teammates.

“I’m so excited to be joining St Helens,” Sailor said. “When I was at the Dragons, James Graham told me all about the England fans and the Saints fans in particular and how passionate they are about their rugby, so I can’t wait to come.
“It’s always been a goal of mine to come and play in the UK at the highest level, so it was really appealing to me and I’m very grateful to the Saints for giving me this opportunity.
“Winning a trophy has always been a big goal of mine. Last year I was with the Broncos in the extended team when they went to the Grand Final and were short of players. I’m sure seeing the history of the Saints and their success will help me achieve what I want.”
Sailor offers plenty of options to the St Helens back line, being able to play at either full-back or wing-back, similar to local talent Jack Welsby.

However, Saints coach Paul Wellens is in no rush to decide which position Sailor will be used most often, and is excited about what the Australian can add to the squad.
“First of all, Tristan is an exciting player,” Wellens said. “He has some offensive talent and is a player I’m sure fans will be excited to see play.
“He is a determined player and he comes here because he wants to be part of a winning team. I am sure he will come and improve our team.
“The fact that he can play at full-back or as a No. 6, like Jack, gives us options, but we must not make decisions too early about where he will play. What we know, and what we are certain of, is that he will add a lot to our team.
“Tristan has played in some great games and is still young, hungry and focused on success. We hope to help him realise his ambitions and we are confident we can do that at St Helens.”
