Weekend Winners: Best Hungerford Stakes Bets Ahead of Saturday’s Newbury Feature | Racing News

The Weekend Winners team are back to take a look at Saturday’s highlight race, the Hungerford at Newbury, live on Vscek Racing.

Host Kate Tracey is joined by BetVictor’s Sam Boswell and attheraces.com’s Declan Rix to pick their top bets for the race, plus they look ahead to York for their ante-post picks.

The Group 2 Hungerford Stakes, which is run over seven furlongs, sees seven horses battle it out and provides a fascinating clash.

Declan Rix…

“Just because of the lack of rhythm I wanted a direct horse, for me it’s like that English OakHe started this season with a rating of 90, is now rated 108 and has also won Royal Ascot.

“The Ascot race looked perfect for him from the grandstand side, he looked like he had a pacemaker on, but the good thing about this guy is he’s so direct; the only bad thing is he can start slowly, but he’s got good tactical speed, he’ll travel nicely in James Doyle’s hands.”

Kate Tracey…

Witch Hunter that’s the one for me. He’s a straight track specialist over seven furlongs or a mile, but I think he’s better over seven.

“The last time he went out, Chester didn’t really suit his style of racing, but now he’s back to racing on a straight track and last year he won against some of the best horses at that distance at the time.”

by Sam Boswell…

“I think the market has the right two at the forefront, but I will side with Who.

“This race has improved a bit since it changed a couple of years ago, a few three-year-olds have had a go and run without winning respectively. I think he’s a really well-equipped three-year-old at Royal Ascot, he’s just been beaten by Haatem – it was an absolutely massive race.

“Last time in Deauville, he had a good start, but when the two groups got closer, a horse got in his way and the race got a little too bright. For me, he remains very much on my radar.”
